Tip Tuesday #1108

It’s Tuesday and it’s time for another QA tip!

Every week, we share what we call, "Tip Tuesday." These are bits of best practices to help awesome clinicians even better in documenting. We came about calling them tips because they are not anything new but simple reminders of the simple things that tend to be overlooked. We hope you find our tips refreshing.

Missed Visits. Simple to report, right? Yes, but no. Especially for homebound patients, unless proven that the patient was not home at the time of visit – for known reasons such as a scheduled doctor appointment, church service, or fetched by a relative – it is not advisable to document as, “not home.” Exhaust all possible efforts in finding the patient, be it knocking loud on a locked door, peeking through an uncovered window, talking to a neighbor, or calling a family member to be able to assess the situation and also to document the missed visit more accurately.
